In music, awards are given to recognize artists, albums and other achievements. These can include awards for performance and production, and awards that are based on long-term contributions to the industry.
The Grammys are one of the most celebrated and prestigious awards in the world. They are presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), which is composed of musicians, producers, engineers and other industry professionals. The winners are announced at a televised ceremony.
Each year, NARAS receives submissions from record companies and members of the music industry, who are then evaluated and voted upon. Entries are then eligible for the Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist awards. The awards are based on sales and radio airplay, and are based on a 12-month period.
There are many different types of awards, but a few stand out as being particularly renowned and respected in the music industry:
– The Mercury Prize
Celebrating the best British and Irish albums and the artists behind them, the Mercury Prize is comparable to the Turner Prize in the art world or the Booker Prize in literature. Open to all genres of music, it is given to 12 shortlisted artists each year and the winner receives a cash prize and a trophy.
– The Billboard Music Awards
Based on key interactions with fans, including song and album sales, digital music, radio airplay, streaming, touring and social engagement, the “Billboard Music Awards” award winners are based on a 12-month reporting period. The finalists are determined by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound.
– The ECHO Klassik
Every year the Deutsche Phono-Akademie – the cultural institute of the Bundesverband Musikindustrie (German music industry association) – awards the ECHO Klassik to national and international musicians. It is considered one of the most prestigious and recognizable music awards in Germany and around the world.
– The iHeartRadio Music Awards
The iHeartRadio Music Awards is a star-studded music awards show. It is a celebration of the biggest artists and songs in 2022. The iHeartRadio Music Awards are broadcast live on iHeartRadio and online via the iHeartRadio app.
