The New Jersey rock band is known for its arena-filling live shows and instantly recognizable worldwide hit singles like “Livin’ On A Prayer.” But what many fans don’t realize is just how much work goes into making the show happen on stage. This four-episode documentary series is packed with behind the scenes footage and interviews with members of the band – from frontman Jon Bon Jovi to bassist John Shanks and guitarist Phil X – plus the crew that keeps the wheels spinning, including tour manager, roadies, producers, engineers, and more.
The doc follows the band through three years of touring in support of their latest album, “2020.” The show was filmed at Boston’s TD Garden and is sure to please diehard fans and newbies alike. The first episode starts with the band’s first rehearsal and quickly gives you a glimpse into how they go about getting ready to rock out. The chemistry between the guys is obvious, and the band really seems to enjoy being together as well as performing for their fans.
Jon Bon Jovi has a strong presence even in his twilight years, and he knows how to keep the crowd on their feet. While it may be a little challenging for him to project those higher notes, he still delivers with a great deal of power and passion. His band mates are all very talented as well, and they play their instruments perfectly. The set list is a perfect mix of old and new, with hits from their early ’80s heyday (“Slippery When Wet,” “You Give Love A Bad Name,” “Wanted Dead or Alive”) as well as their more recent successes (“This House Is Not For Sale,” “Who Says You Can’t Go Home”).
It also includes a few covers, including the Beatles classic “I Want To Hold Your Hand.” It’s not every night that you get to see this much talent in one place at once. It’s an amazing look at how far the band has come in the last 30 years, and it’s sure to please any fan of rock music.
While fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Bon Jovi’s upcoming full-length and new single, they may have to hold their breath a bit when it comes to touring. Lead singer Jon Bon Jovi recently revealed in an interview with Boston radio station Mix 104.1 that he isn’t quite ready to head out on the road just yet, as he continues to recover from vocal cord surgery. He explains that he’s not quite sure when he will be ready, but that he is optimistic about his recovery. He hasn’t given up on his dream of continuing to perform in front of thousands of screaming fans. However, he also knows that it’s not always in his best interest to do so until he is fully recovered. Stay tuned for more updates on the Bon Jovi 2020 Tour.
